The moon continues to wane as it moves through Scorpio, heading toward the weekend’s Sagittarius new moon. It opposes unpredictable Uranus in the evening, so expect a curveball or two, and be prepared to adapt — but your instincts could be a bit erratic, so do your best not to contribute to the general chaos with reckless choices of your own.

The more time and energy you invest in working toward a specific goal, the harder it becomes to imagine life any other way; whether you’re searching for love or achievement or creative fulfillment, it’s easy to become single-minded and forget about all the other lives you could be living. But today, remember that you don’t have to chase the same goals and desires forever. Give yourself permission to change: Maybe you’ll find that you’ve outgrown them, or maybe something else is beginning to seem more important now.

On the one hand, this isn’t exactly the best time to be impulsive: Making decisions on the fly, especially ones that go against your usual patterns, probably won’t work out the way you hope. On the other hand, it isn’t your duty to be responsible and careful in every moment of your life. Sometimes, an ill-advised move or two makes things more interesting. A bad decision can end up illuminating what you really want, which path is the right way forward. Don’t beat yourself up if you make a mistake right now — even the silly choices can be useful in the end.

Routines can be useful, because you can rely on the structures you’ve built to carry you through instead of reinventing the wheel every day. But sometimes you get stuck in a rut without even realizing it, doing the same things over and over until you forget there are other ways you could live. It’s time to get off autopilot and give yourself a chance to make other choices. By acting differently, you’ll see the world — and yourself — differently too. Suddenly, new possibilities will become clear.

You’re intentional with your words most of the time: You understand that they’re powerful, so you’re careful only to say what you truly mean. But you could be surprised by what comes out of your own mouth today. In the heat of the moment, you might reveal feelings you haven’t yet acknowledged even to yourself, or anger you’ve been trying to ignore. Pay attention to your own words: It’s possible you’re just blowing off steam, of course, but it’s also possible that there’s more beneath the surface than you realized.

The people around you sometimes get an overinflated sense of their own wisdom, acting like they understand your inner workings much better than you ever could or like they’re the experts on your life story and you should defer to their superior knowledge. It seems easiest to humor them and go about your day — but you’ve had enough. If someone’s acting arrogant, overfamiliar, or just bossy, you’re allowed to push back. Everyone (not just you!) will be better off if you do.

You aren’t terribly easy to catch off guard; most of the time, you’re smart and observant enough to see what’s on the horizon and prepare before it arrives. Still, that doesn’t mean you’re never surprised — and today might bring invitations and opportunities that you didn’t see coming. You have a chance to deviate from the course you thought your life would take or to break with tradition. Maybe you’re ready to try something new, or maybe you’ll decide in the end to stick with the way things are. Either way, the choice is yours.

When you need support, it’s not always the people you’d expect who show up. Your closest friends might be busy, or they might not know how to help; for any number of reasons, they could let you down. When that happens, you might be surprised by who rushes to your aid. Casual acquaintances might prove to be people you can rely on, friends you’ve fallen out of touch with might return — even strangers could step up. Remember that there’s always some kindness to be found, even if it doesn’t come from where you expect.

Right now, the last thing you want is drama in your relationships. The rest of the world is messy enough and you want at least one area of your life to be stable, secure, even predictable. But as much as you want peace, it feels like the people around you are doing their best to stir up trouble and disagreements. Part of you might be tempted to jump in and try to convince everybody else to act better, but this is probably a losing game. You’re better off walking away and letting things blow over on their own for now.

Life can seem like a series of disconnected moments, but you understand that there’s a bigger picture there — and you’re good at making sense of it, creating narratives that help you to understand yourself and your life. You might be asked to revisit the stories you’ve told yourself about who you are; maybe new information can help you see your past in a new light, or maybe a friend will challenge you to find alternative explanations for why things are the way they are. By reinterpreting your memories, it becomes possible to reimagine your future.

You aren’t a people pleaser, but even so, you try to be aware of how you come across to others; knowing what sort of reaction your words provoke can help you to build strong relationships and get what you want. But today, you’ll find that you just can’t be bothered to care. You’re sick of tiptoeing around others’ feelings, and you don’t have the emotional capacity to worry about how everybody else might be perceiving you. For now, don’t worry about it. Don’t trample over other people, but let their thoughts be their own business.

Some people are happy to go through life without a plan — but not you. You don’t need to have every second of your day scheduled, but you need the broad outlines in place; being expected to wing it stresses you out too much. The problem is that sometimes, no matter how well you’ve planned ahead, unexpected detours and disruptions make it necessary to adjust. You can choose to hold tight to your original idea (and probably end up feeling frustrated and defeated) or have fun with it, approaching the unexpected with curiosity and a sense of adventure.

You might be more distracted than usual today. It’s easy to tell yourself that the problem is with you and your attention span — and while that might be partially true, it’s also possible that your everyday existence has gotten a bit too boring for you. Instead of forcing yourself to concentrate on something dull and uninteresting, you’ll be better off finding a way to make life interesting and keep you on your toes. New projects, new people, new things to learn about might be all you need to snap back into focus for now.
