Here’s a look at the announcing assignments for the NFL’s 2025 Divisional Weekend. That includes some discussion of each game based on broadcasters, matchups, or both. All times are Eastern.
Featured/only game: Houston at Kansas City
ABC/ESPN, ESPN Deportes, ESPN+ 4:30 p.m.
Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, Laura Rutledge, Lisa Salters
ESPN Deportes: Rebeca Landa, Sebastián Martinez-Christensen, MJ Acosta-Ruiz
Westwood One Radio: Kevin Harlan, Ross Tucker, Olivia Dekker
Entravision Spanish Radio: Ricardo Celis, Tony Nuñez
This game is continuing one of the most remarkable streaks in sports. That would be the Houston Texans’ history of appearing in the Saturday afternoon window in the playoffs. They were in that slot for the eighth–straight time during the Wild-Card round last week, where they thumped the Los Angeles Chargers 32-12 and made Rex Ryan eat his “bye week” words (although not literally). And they’re now appearing in the Saturday afternoon window during the divisional round for the second-straight time, following last year’s 34-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens there. (They appeared in the Saturday night window in the divisional round in 2016, and in the Sunday afternoon one in 2019, so this streak hasn’t always extended to the divisional round, but it’s notable that it is now for the second straight season.)
Obviously, a lot of the attention here is on the 15-2 Chiefs, who are nine-point home favorites against the 11-7 Texans. They’re looking for a Super Bowl threepeat, and this might be Travis Kelce’s last ride. But C.J. Stroud and the Texans deserve plenty of attention in their own right, even if they don’t always get it from national TV (last season, their first game outside the Sunday afternoon window came in Week 18). We’ll see if they can make this interesting, and we’ll see what unrestrained analysis Aikman offers this time around.
Featured/only game: Washington at Detroit
FOX, FOX Deportes 8 p.m.
Kevin Burkhardt, Tom Brady, Erin Andrews, Tom Rinaldi
FOX Deportes: Adrian Garcia-Márquez, Jaime Motta, Jessi Losada, Rodolfo Landeros
Westwood One Radio: Kevin Kugler, Mike Mayock, Laura Okmin
Entravision Spanish Radio: Ricardo Celis, Tony Nuñez
The most interesting broadcasting angle here may be how Raiders’ co-owner Brady handles calling a game with two Detroit coordinators his team wants to interview, how Fox addresses that conflict of interest, and how fans respond. Some so-called “media analysts” known for their history of posting bikini pictures apparently don’t think this is notable, but everyone else is at least talking about how it might play out, whether defending Brady or not.
On the actual field, the 15-2 Lions are 8.5-point favorites. (So, if this and the earlier Saturday game play out as the books expect, we might have some more college football figures referencing that the NFL also has lopsided games.) And QB Jared Goff threw for 4,629 yards with 37 touchdowns and 12 interceptions (and a 72.4 percent completion mark) this regular season. But the 12-5 Commanders have their own talented pivot in rookie Jayden Daniels, who threw for 3,568 yards and 25 touchdowns with nine interceptions and a 69.0 percent completion mark.
Featured/only game: LA Rams at Philadelphia
NBC, Peacock, Telemundo/Universo 3 p.m.
Mike Tirico, Cris Collinsworth, Kaylee Hartung, Melissa Stark
Telemundo: Miguel Gurwitz, Rolando Cantú, Ariana Figuera
Westwood One Radio: Ian Eagle, Charles Davis, Ben Leber
Entravision Spanish Radio: Ricardo Celis, Tony Nuñez
It’s unusual to see the NBC Sunday Night Football crew working an afternoon game, but that’s how it played out this time around. And they have what should be an interesting one, with the 10-7 Rams at the 14-3 Eagles. Philadelphia is a 6.5-point home favorite, but this might be close if the Eagles’ offense doesn’t wind up clicking.
Speaking of that Jalen Hurts-led offense, this season has seen some of the most drama we’ve seen around any team this successful. That’s included extensive discussions of how much Hurts does or does not bring to their passing game. And that even saw Fox’s Greg Olsen feud with fans who criticized his praise for the offense under Kenny Pickett in a Week 16 game after Hurts left with an injury.
Hurts threw for 2,903 yards with 18 touchdowns and five interceptions (and a 68.7 percent completion mark) this season, but hasn’t won everyone over. He’ll have to watch out for the likes of Los Angeles safety Kamren Kinchens, who co-led the team with four picks this year. And the Rams overall are coming off a remarkable win against the Minnesota Vikings in a “home” game in Arizona due to wildfires around their city; we’ll see if they can keep their run going.
Sunday, January 19, evening window
Featured/only game: Baltimore at Buffalo
CBS, Paramount+ 6:30 p.m.
Jim Nantz, Tony Romo, Tracy Wolfson, Jay Feely
Westwood One Radio: Ryan Radtke, Mike Golic, Derek Rackley
Entravision Spanish Radio: Ricardo Celis, Tony Nuñez
This one stands out for the duel between NFL MVP favorites Lamar Jackson (+320) and Josh Allen (-450, as of Thursday). Allen threw for 3,731 yards with 28 touchdowns and six interceptions (and a 63.6 percent completion mark) this regular season, while also rushing 102 times for 531 yards and 12 touchdowns. Jackson threw for 4,172 yards with 41 touchdowns and four interceptions and a 66.7 percent completion mark, while also rushing 139 times for 915 touchdowns and four touchdowns.
On the announcing side, an interesting aspect here is the addition of Jay Feely to the usual CBS A-team of Nantz, Romo, and Wolfson. Nantz and Romo placed sixth out of 25 booths in our reader-voted announcer rankings earlier this month, while Feely was 19th in a three-man booth with Tom McCarthy and Ross Tucker (and maybe deserved higher than that). Feely will be sideline reporting here, but can also be called on for commentary from his kicking specialist perspective, and that may make for some interesting clips.
