Pedro Martinez Portero of Spain will battle Yannick Hanfmann of Germany for a place in the semifinal round of the 2024 Chengdu Open on Sunday. Martinez entered the quarterfinal round of this ATP 250 tournament following a clinical 6-3, 6-4 win over Aleksander Vukic of Australia on Friday. Martinez won 82 percent of his first serves and scored 26 return points to keep Vukic at bay throughout the match. Ranked No. 40 in the world, Martinez is searching for his second career ATP title. Hanfmann downed No.7 seed Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in three sets 6-4 3-6 6-3 to roll into the final eight. Despite being on the receiving end of Perricard’s 22 aces, Hanfamann persevered, winning 79 percent of his first serves and firing 8 aces as well. The German has won his last four matches, including two Davis Cup rubber matches a week ago.
