Two years ago, I created Version 1.0 of the breakdown of the scholarship situation at WVU and the outgoing (and incoming) transfers. With Neal Brown fired, the transfer portal immediately open, and players already leaving, it’s time to start a new edition of the Transfer and Scholarship Tracker. It will be your one-stop shop for the most complete picture of every position group on the WVU Football team.
Here’s what to expect below….
Please note that, with this tracker, all eligibility discussion is about the 2025 season. Sure, there are some we can assume will not be back but, for this exercise, everyone is back until they say otherwise.
5:30pm ET on 01/11/2025: NC State offensive line transfer Robby Martin has committed to WVU Football. The former Huntington (WV) star has four years of eligibility remaining.
2:35pm ET on 01/11/2025: Youngstown State offensive lineman Wyatt Minor committed to WVU earlier this morning at the start of his visit. He has three years of eligibility remaining. Wide receiver Daveon Walker committed to the Mountaineers this afternoon. While he began his career at Vanderbilt, he is finishing up at Butler (KS) C.C., so he technically counts as a junior college prospect, and not someone from the transfer portal.
8:00pm ET on 01/10/2025: Colorado State linebacker Chase Wilson has committed to West Virginia. The sixth-year senior has two years to play one season of football.
4:15pm ET on 01/10/2025: Washington Husky safety Justin Harrington has committed to WVU Football. He began his career in junior college, played two years at Oklahoma and spent this past season with the Huskies. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
12:45pm ET on 01/10/2025: Northern Iowa running back Tye Edwards has committed to WVU. The 6-foot-4, 230-pounder rushed for over 1,000 yards last season. He has one year, possibly two, of eligibility remaining due to the NCAA’s recent ruling on junior college players.
12:00pm ET on 01/10/2025: Offensive/defensive lineman Kimo Makale’one has committed to WVU. The LSU transfer spent the first three years of his career as an offensive guard, but moved over to defensive tackle to provide extra depth this past season. Until we hear otherwise, we are going to put him as an offensive lineman.
10:30am ET on 01/10/2025: Offensive tackle Justin Terry has withdrawn from the NCAA Transfer Portal without signing with another program. Sources tell EerSports that he plans to return to WVU.
7:30am ET on 01/10/2025: West Virginia picked up a commitment from star cornerback Michael Coats Jr. on Thursday. He has one year of eligibility remaining. The Mountaineers may have also secured a pledge from Akron cornerback Devonte Golden-Nelson. However, he has not yet confirmed that news to EerSports, nor has any Source at WVU. For now, he’s not included on this list, but may be in the next update.
10:25pm ET on 01/08/2025: Three commitments this afternoon and all three come in the secondary for West Virginia. Jacksonville State cornerback Derek Carter, UT-Chattanooga safety Jordan Walker and Jacksonville State safety Fred Perry all pledged to the Mountaineers. All three players have one year of eligibility remaining.
1:30pm ET on 01/06/2025: WVU has picked up a commitment from former Iowa tight end Johnny Pascuzzi. He has one year of eligibility remaining. The Mountaineers also added a commitment from kicker Ethan Head out of Tulane. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
10:30am ET on 01/06/2025: WVU has picked up a commitment from former Jacksonville State receiver Cam Vaughn. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
6:00pm ET on 01/05/2025: WVU has picked up a commitment from former UNC linebacker Ashton Woods. He has four years of eligibility remaining.
12:20pm ET on 01/05/2025: WVU has picked up a pair of commitments from Catawba College running back LJ Turner and Youngstown State wide receiver Cyrus Traugh. Turner has one year of eligibility remaining while Traugh has three.
6:30pm ET on 01/04/2025: Former Fresno State and Texas A&M quarterback Jaylen Henderson has verbally committed to West Virginia. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
10:00am ET on 01/04/2025: Edge rusher Obinna Onwuka is NOT in the transfer portal. In fact, he never was. Despite reports to the contrary, the freshman pass rusher did not put his name officially in the portal and remains with the program.
10:30am ET on 01/02/2025: At some point over the break, Lucas Austin entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. He was not reflected in previous updates, but is now.
2:00pm ET on 12/31/2024: Corner/safety Kekoura Tarnue announced that he will use the extra year of eligibility granted to recent JUCO players and will play on more year at West Virginia. So add one more back to the roster.
11:55am ET on 12/30/2024: Offensive tackle Justin Terry has shown up in the NCAA Transfer Portal this morning, a source tells EerSports. He redshirted this season and has four years of eligibility remaining.
8:45am ET on 12/27/2024: Former four-star and High School All-American Kyle Altuner has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. He injured his knee and missed the season, meaning he will technically have five years left to play four seasons moving forward.
5:15pm ET on 12/23/2024: A dual update here. Cornerback Dontez Fagan has declared that, despite the new ruling allowing guys who played junior college an extra year of eligibility, that he will be heading to the NFL. He was out of eligibility before the JUCO ruling, so we didn’t have him listed. Still, an update. The second is that tight end transfer Jacob Barrick has pledged to WVU. He has two years to play one season.
3:30pm ET on 12/23/2024: Jacksonville State wide receiver Jarod Bowie – a former Martinsburg HS standout – has committed to WVU. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
2:00pm ET on 12/23/2024: Tulsa offensive line transfer Walter Young Bear has committed to WVU. The 6-3/310-pound projected guard/center has one year of eligibility remaining.
9:30am ET on 12/23/2024: Making official(ish) what has been discussed on the board for a few days. Multiple Sources tell EerSports that wide receiver Preston Fox plans to call it a career, while tight end Treylan Davis is “not coming back.” Neither player is in the transfer portal.
9:30pm ET on 12/22/2024: West Virginia has picked up two transfer commitments (so far) today – Eastern Michigan wide receiver Oran Singleton and South Alabama cornerback Jordan Scruggs.
11:00am ET on 12/21/2024: Starting wide receiver Traylon Ray plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, a source tells EerSports. He’s not yet in there, but walk-on offensive lineman Donovan Grayson showed up in the database this morning.
2:00pm ET on 12/20/2024: Safety Jaheem Joseph, who has one year of eligibility remaining, announced that he would be entering the NCAA Transfer Portal.

10:00am ET on 12/20/2024: Obinna Onwuka has submitted paperwork to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal.
12:00pm ET on 12/19/2024: Instead of a practice run for the starting job next season, Johnny Williams’ bowl game start at left tackle was an audition for his next team. The young lineman announced moments ago that he will enter the transfer portal.
11:30am ET on 12/19/2024: Star running back CJ Donaldson and former four-star receiver Ric’Darious Farmer have announced that they will enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. Neither are officially in at this time.

7:00pm ET on 12/18/2024: There was a rush to the transfer portal while I was coaching basketball this afternoon. Linebacker Trey Lathan, offensive linemen Tomas Rimac and Sullivan Weidman, and walk-on Aiden Ellis all entered the portal – or announced they would – in the last couple hours.
1:00pm ET on 12/18/2024: Quarterback Ryder Burton has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. Burton arrived at West Virginia last summer after transferring from BYU. He did not play a snap this season.
9:30am ET on 12/9/2024: One out and one in in this latest update. On Friday afternoon, rising senior running back Jaylen Anderson entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. No announcement on social media or anything, but the longtime Mountaineer will have one year of eligibility remaining at his new school. Meanwhile, defensive lineman Evan Powell has signed his Letter of Intent, recommitting to WVU after opening up his recruitment due to the firing of Neal Brown. The scholarship number stays at 80.
4:00pm ET on 12/4/2024: Starting linebacker Josiah Trotter has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. The top defensive recruit in the 2023 class and the son of NFL linebacker Jeremiah Trotter, he missed his first season with a knee injury but was a mainstay this season with 92 tackles, 4.0 tackles for a loss and one interception.
3:00pm: Cornerback TJ Crandall has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. He redshirted in 2022 at Colorado State and started five of 10 games in 2023. Injuries were an issue in his season with WVU, when he totaled nine tackles. He played in 11 games and started once in eight games played on defense.

There have been multiple decommitments from the high school recruiting class – two apiece in 2025 and 2026 – and the first transfer has already been announced in Josiah Jackson. Shortly after that, safety Raleigh Collins and offensive lineman Bryce Biggs followed suit.
