Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 4 seed, moved into the last 16 of the Toronto Masters by winning against Spaniard Paula Badosa 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-2 at the Aviva Centre on Thursday.
Badosa struggled with blisters throughout the match, and required a medical timeout during the match. Last week, she won her first title since January 2022, claiming the Citi Open in Washington.
Ostapenko, ranked No 11, will play American lucky loser Taylor Townsend next.
Badosa, ranked No 40, defeated Dane Clara Tauson (6-1, 6-4) in the previous round of the Rogers Cup.
