We’re down to the semifinal round at the WTA 500 in Monterrey, and there will be a first-time winner after former champion Elina Svitolina was stunned by teenager Linda Noskova. Who will make it to the final?
Head–to–Head: Alexandrova 1 vs 0 Sun
Ekaterina Alexandrova stood firm to repel everything Yue Yuan threw at her in their closely contested quarterfinal encounter, which she eventually won in straight sets. Lulu Sun is standing on her way to the final, lighting up Monterrey with some brilliant tennis. There was very little to separate them in their previous encounter, which the Russian won, and I think Sun will want this win more to even their head-to-head. Besides, she’s playing better at the moment.
Prediction: Sun in 3
Head–to–Head: Svitolina 0 vs 2 Noskova
Emma Navarro recovered from losing the opening tiebreak to thrash Magdalena Frech. The American has fought back from a set down in the two matches she’s played in Monterrey, and I doubt she’ll be third-time lucky against Linda Noskova, who is firing on all cylinders. It’s difficult not to back the Czech teen at this point.
Prediction: Noskova in 2
