The WTA 500 event in Monterrey continues with an action-packed Day 3 at the Sonoma Club. We examine three of the matches lined up to see who will advance to the next round.
Head–to–Head: Noskova 0 vs 2 Wang
Teenager Noskova has had a decent season, making it to the fourth round in the Australian Open and reaching the semifinal in Prague. Still, she’ll have it all to do against Wang, who pummeled veteran Tatjana Maria in her opener here. Considering their head-to-head and talent, this match belongs to the Chinese youngster.
Prediction: Wang in 2
Head–to–Head: Frech 2 vs 0 Glushko
Magdalena Frech dug deep to end Nadia Podoroska’s five-match streak in the first round, but this encounter against Glushko should be more straightforward. The Pole is the better player, and she’ll be riding on a wave of confidence, having defeated her twice before.
Prediction: Frech in 2

Head–to–Head: Martic 1 vs 0 Yuan
Petra Martic returned to winning form after being dumped out of the Paris Olympics in the first round with a hard-fought three-set victory over Carol Zhao. It’s not been a fantastic year for the Croatian, but I expect her to find her rhythm and bring her experience to bear to get another win over Yue Yuan, whom she emphatically defeated on the hard courts of Auckland early this year.
Prediction: Martic in 3
