FAIRBORN, Ohio (WKEF) – On Monday morning, federal and state officials met with local developers to announce a massive expansion agreement for Wright Patterson Air Force Base.
By 2035, Wright Patt is going to get a whole lot bigger, which will create a lot more jobs for Ohioans.
US Rep. Mike Turner says, “Synergy has announced today that they are going to be expanding their commercial development into Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, which is going to allow for commercial development on the base, including the expansion of base jobs and work in the base itself.”
In a joint partnership between Representative Turner’s office and Synergy and Mills development, WPAFB will be undergoing a 600,000 square foot expansion over the next 10 years.
Funded by over $300 million dollars in federal, state, and private investments, the project includes base commercial expansion as well as construction of the Convergence Research Center.
“It’s meant to research, develop, modernize, innovate, create new technologies and new capabilities, and to do it together, side-by-side at a speed that we haven’t seen since World War II.,” says Jerad Barnett, Synergy and Mills CEO.
Barnett says that, between the commercial developments and the Convergence Research Center, they expect Wright Patt to create 3000 new jobs for Ohioans by 2035.
Representative Turner, excited for what opportunities this expansion could create for the US military.
Rep. Turner adds, “It’ll be a mix of private industry, government, Air Force jobs, academia, and universities all coming together to do work for the missions of the Air Force at this facility.”
Construction of the new Wright Patterson developments will begin in the summer of 2025.
As for right now, Synergy and Mills has already begun marketing commercial space for retailers to move in.
