Grade 1 winner Howard Wolowitz, who beat older horses in the Holiday Cheer Stakes at Turfway in his most recent start, drilled a bullet at Palm Meadows on Monday morning. The son of Munnings went four furlongs in 46.9 seconds, fastest of nine over the trip.
A Jose D’Angelo trainee, Howard Wolowitz broke through at the top level in September at Kentucky Downs, winning the Grade 1 Franklin-Simpson in his graded-stakes debut. Though he was ninth in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint in his next start, he overcame trip trouble and made up ground late, crossing the wire beaten only three lengths by winner Starlust.
Cavalieri, who won the La Cañada (G3) in her first career graded try on Jan. 19, worked back for the second time since that start. The improving 4-year-old, trained by Bob Baffert, covered four furlongs on the Santa Anita dirt in 49.4 seconds. A $900,000 2-year-old, Cavaliere did not debut until August of her sophomore season but has won all three of her races.
