Getting in a final workout before she takes on Grade 1
company Saturday at Parx, Mystic Lake turned in a maintenance breeze Tuesday at
Saratoga.
The filly sired by Mo Town, owned by C2 Racing Stable and Stefania
Farms was clocked going a half-mile in 53.0 seconds. It was her second timed
work for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. since she won the Charles Town Oaks (G2) on
Aug. 23.
Mystic Lake will be shipped to Pennsylvania to race this
weekend in the $1 million Cotillion Stakes, where she and seven other
3-year-old fillies will try to upset heavy favorite and consensus division
leader Thorpedo Anna in the 1 1/16-mile race.
On a typically light Tuesday of training, there were only
seven graded-stakes winners on the work tab.
Mystic Lake (Mo Town), a Grade 2 winner (2024
Charles Town Oaks), worked four furlongs in 53.0 seconds at Saratoga on Tuesday
morning. It was the slowest of nine works at the distance. Her previous work
was six days ago going four furlongs at Saratoga. In her last start she won the
Charles Town Oaks (G2) going seven furlongs on the main track at Charles Town
on Aug. 23 for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr.
Temple (Temple City), a Grade 2 winner (2022 Mac Diarmida), worked
four furlongs in 50.0 seconds at Turfway Park on Tuesday morning. It was the
32nd fastest of 54 works at the distance. This was his first work since his
last race. In his last start he won a starter allowance race going one mile on
the turf at Belterra Park on Aug. 24 for trainer Mike Maker.
Trademark (Upstart), a Grade 2 winner (2023 Clark), worked five
furlongs in 1:00.0 at Keeneland on Tuesday morning. It was the fastest of 12
works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs
at Keeneland. In his last start he placed sixth in the Michael G. Schaefer
Memorial going one mile and 70 yards on the main track at Horseshoe
Indianapolis on July 6 for trainer Vicki Oliver.
Durante (Distorted Humor), a Grade 3 winner (2023 Bold Ruler),
worked three furlongs in 38.1 seconds at Belmont Park on Tuesday morning. It
was the sixth fastest of nine works at the distance. His previous work was four
days ago going four furlongs at Belmont Park. In his last start he won a
starter allowance race going 5 1/2 furlongs on the main track at Delaware Park
on Aug. 29 for trainer David Jacobson.
Heroic Move (Quality Road), a Grade 3 winner (2024 Steve Sexton
Mile), worked five furlongs in 1:01.4 at Louisiana Downs on Tuesday morning. It
was the fourth fastest of 12 works at the distance. His previous work was 10
days ago going four furlongs at Louisiana Downs. In his last start he placed
second in the West Virginia Governor’s (G3) going 1 1/16 miles on the main
track at Mountaineer on Aug. 4 for trainer Robertino Diodoro.
Secret Money (Good Samaritan), a Grade 3 winner (2023 Music City),
worked four furlongs in 49.0 seconds at Turfway Park on Tuesday morning. It was
the 22nd fastest of 54 works at the distance. This was her first work since her
last race. In her last start she placed fifth in the Ladies Turf Sprint (G2)
going 6 1/2 furlongs on the turf at Kentucky Downs on Aug. 31 for trainer
Brendan Walsh.
Tejano Twist (Practical Joke), a Grade 3 winner (2023 Whitmore),
worked three furlongs in 35.4 seconds at Churchill Downs on Tuesday morning. It
was the fastest of three works at the distance. This was his first work since
his last race. In his last start he placed fourth in the Kelly’s Landing going
6 1/2 furlongs on the main track at Churchill Downs on June 29 for trainer
Chris Hartman.
