WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.—First-year Alice Zhu (Orlando, Fla.) recorded the team’s low score of the day with a 7-over 78 as the Babson College women’s golf team finished in a tie for ninth place in the Williams Invitational at Taconic Golf Club on Sunday. 

The Beavers, who began the day in fourth place, posted a team score of 325 to grab a share of ninth position alongside No. 22 Middlebury with a 36-hole total of 62-over 630. No. 12 Wellesley recorded the low round of the day (297) to finish eight shots of second-place NYU with a two-day total of 24-over 592. The 17th-ranked Violets shot 299, while No. 6 Williams (607), No. 11 Amherst (609) and Bowdoin (619) rounded out the top five. 

Zhu made a pair of birdies and followed up Saturday’s 75 to tie for 15th place with a 36-hole total of 11-over 153. First-year Camila Amaya (Singer Island, Fla.) carded a final round 79 and finished in a tie for 26th position at 13-over 155. 

Friday-year Hannah McCarthy (Toronto, Ontario) tied for 43rd overall with a 36-hole score of 18-over 160 after shooting an 82 on Sunday. Classmate Jennie Pan (Delray Beach, Fla.), who shot a 76 in the opening round, struggled to an 86 and tied for 50th place at 20-over 162. Fellow rookie Molly McCarthy (Toronto, Ontario) closed with a 92 and tied for 91st overall. 

Babson is back in action next Saturday and Sunday when it travels to Rome, N.Y., to compete in the Hamilton Invitational. 

TOURNAMENT NOTES

•    Despite struggling on Sunday, the Beavers made a 42-shot improvement and moved up five spots on the leaderboard after shooting 672 and placing 14th in their debut at the Williams Invitational last September. 

•    Zhu recorded her second consecutive top-15 finish after tying for 15th at last weekend’s Polar Bear Shootout. 

•    The Williams Invitational featured eight nationally-ranked teams with Babson finishing ahead 14 strokes ahead of No. 24 Rhodes and just one shot behind No. 25 Randolph-Macon.
