Lewisburg, Pa. – Senior Mia Avotins (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) tied for 31st place to lead the Le Moyne College women’s golf team to an 11th-place finish at the Bucknell Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at the par-70 Bucknell Golf Club.
The Dolphins finished with a program-record score of 968 over the 54 holes after registering rounds of a program record-tying 316, 331 and 321, which is tied for the fourth-best round in the program’s history.
The University of Pennsylvania won the team competition with a total of 874 following rounds of 295, 285 and 294. Lehigh University placed second with a 906 off scores of 301, 305 and 300. The host Bison were third with a 911 after rounds of 299, 304 and 308. Penn’s Debby Chang placed first with a seven-over par 217 following scores of two-over 72, one-over 71 and four-over 74.
Avotins finished in a three-way tie for 31st place in the 78-member field with a 237, the third-best 54-hole score in the program’s history, after posting three birdies and 25 pars. She opened with an 82, which featured seven pars, to land in a tie for 55th place. She recorded another 82 in the second round, which included eight pars, to move into a five-way tie for 49th place. She closed out the invitational with three birdies and 10 pars en route to a three-over par 73, the second-best round of her career and tied for the third-best in the program’s history.
Freshman Olivia Dahn (Bristol, Conn./St. Paul Catholic) finished in a three-way tie for 47th place with a 244, the sixth-best total in the program’s history, which included three birdies and 21 pars. She opened the invitational with a 78, which featured one birdie and nine pars, to land in a seven-way tie for 35th place. She moved up one place with an 80 in the second round, which included two birdies and six pars. She posted six pars in the final round en route to an 86.
Sophomore Gianna Cafarella (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory School) tied for 55th place with a career-best 247, the seventh-best mark in the program’s history, which featured two birdies and 23 pars. She opened with a career-best 75, tied for the 11th-best round in the program’s history, after recording two birdies and nine pars to land in a seven-way tie for 12th place. She registered nine pars in the second round en route to an 85 to place in a three-way tie for 41st. She tallied an 87 in the final round after posting five pars.
Freshman Lauren Williams (San Francisco, Calif./University HS) recorded a 248, the eighth-best total in the program’s history, including two birdies and 19 pars to tie for 57th place. She turned in one birdie and four pars on her way to an 84 in the first round to place in a four-way tie for 58th. She dipped into a three-way tie for 63rd with an 86 in the second round, which featured seven pars. She jumped up in the standings on Sunday with a 78, which included eight pars and one birdie.
Junior Riley Stuver (Webster, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) tied for 59th place with a career-best 249, the ninth-best score in the program’s history, after carding two birdies and 20 pars. She landed in a five-way tie for 50th place on Friday with a career best-tying 81, which included nine pars. She posted six pars on Saturday en route to an 84 to land in a tie for 54th place. She closed out the weekend with an 84 on two birdies and five pars.
