Boardman, Ohio – The Le Moyne College women’s golf team set its 18- and 36-hole scoring records on its way to a tie for eighth-place finish at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational hosted by Youngstown State University on Sunday and Monday at the par-72 Mill Creek Park Golf Course.
The Dolphins registered a program-record mark of 315 in each round for a program-record total of 630. The previous 18-hole record of 316 was set at Southern New Hampshire on September 19, 2015 and tied at Bucknell 17 days ago. The previous 36-hole record of 644 was set at the Le Moyne Invitational on September 18 and 19, 2016.
Youngstown State won the team championship with a total of 586 off rounds of 292 and 294. Purdue Fort Wayne placed second at 595 after posting scores of 297 and 298, while Bucknell was third with a 596 after rounds of 301 and 295. Neeranuch Prajunpanich from Youngstown State earned medalist honors with a two-under par 142 off back-to-back rounds of one-under par 71.
Senior Mia Avotins (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) led the Dolphins by finishing in a four-way tie for 16th place with a 36-hole total of 151, which is tied for the second-best score of her career and tied for the fifth-best mark in the program’s history. She finished with three birdies and 24 pars. She opened play with a 76, which included one birdie and 12 pars to land in a tie for 17th place. She moved one spot on Monday with a 75, which featured two birdies and 12 more pars.
Freshman Olivia Dahn (Bristol, Conn./St. Paul Catholic) finished in a five-way tie for 41st place with a 160, which included four birdies and 18 pars. She carded a season best-tying 78, which featured two birdies and 10 pars, to tie for 31st place. She dipped 10 places after turning in an 82 in the second round, which included two birdies and eight pars.
Freshman Lauren Williams (San Francisco, Calif./University HS) landed in a three-way tie for 46th place with a total of 161, which featured one birdie and 19 pars. She registered 10 pars to post an 82, which put her in a tie for 52nd place. She jumped six spots on Monday with a 79, the second-best mark of her season, following one birdie and nine pars.
Sophomore Gianna Cafarella (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory School) finished in a six-way tie for 52nd place with a mark of 163, which included 20 pars. She was in a tie for 35th place after a first-round 79, which featured 13 pars. She slipped 17 positions with an 84 in the second round, which included seven pars.
Junior Riley Stuver (Webster, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) tied for 58th place with a career-best tally of 164, which featured 21 pars. She opened with an 85, which included 10 pars, to land in a tie for 68th place. She vaulted 10 places up the standings on Monday following a career-best round of 79, which featured 11 pars.
The Dolphins are back in Ohio next Monday and Tuesday for the Rocket Classic hosted by the University of Toledo at the Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio.
