Wheeling, W. Va. – During the Fall 2024 season, the Wheeling University Women’s Golf team had experience and used that experience to grow the program. As they enter the spring 2025 season, the team looks to continue to build on that experience, while helping foster the next generation of Wheeling Women’s Golfers. On Monday, the team released their spring 2025 schedule, featuring three Mountain East Conference (MEC) Tournaments that will test the team throughout the season.
In the fall season, the Cardinals featured a team of four golfers, competing in three tournaments against some of the top teams in the region. They began the year at the annual Golden Eagle Invitational, where they finished 15th, with a two-round score of 840. They faced several of their MEC opponents at the event, giving them a gauge of what they needed to work on moving forward. They would compete with three golfers at their final two events, heading to the Ohio Dominican Invitational and the Ashland Eagle Invitational to round out the regular season. The Cardinals had a different leading golfer in every event during the fall, and they headed into the 2024 MEC Women’s Golf Championships looking to send individuals to day three of the event for the sixth year in a row.
As they competed through the tournament, it was the two Cardinal veterans that separated themselves from the field. After day one, the Cardinals had one golfer in the top 15 and one sitting just outside the top 20, and by day two both Ella Keffer (T-15th) and Nicole Lincicome (19th) were in the top 20. The duo would both qualify for the final day of competition as individuals and looked to finish the year strong. Keffer would maintain a hold on her 15th place spot overall and Lincicome would finish 19th to round out the event. While the Cardinals did not have big numbers throughout the season, they played quality over quantity, and sent half of their roster to the biggest stage of conference play.
The 2025 spring season will see the team compete in three different tournaments as they look to build on their success from the fall. They open the spring schedule this week, when they take a Spring Break trip to Calabash, North Carolina. The team will compete in the Calabash Invitational March 7th and 8th, where they will see several of their conference opponents. Two weeks later, the team will see many of those same opponents as they head to the 2025 MEC Spring Golf Classic. The Cardinals will get to compete against all the same teams they did at the MEC Championships in the fall as they look to improve their standing in the spring season. Their final regular season tournament will see them head to nearby Oglebay for the West Liberty University Invitational. The schedule is set to help the Cardinals see their conference opponents and continue to grow for the 2025-2026 season.
The Wheeling University Women’s Golf team kicks off their 2025 spring schedule on Friday, March 7th, when they compete at the Calabash Invitational, with tee times beginning at 10 AM.
