CONWAY, Ark. – Starting year two at the helm of the women’s golf team, head coach Summar Roachell has announced the slate of tournaments that the Bears will compete in during the 2024-25 season. Featuring five events hosted by Power 4 programs, the Bears look to challenge themselves with a very competitive schedule.
“I am very excited for the schedule we have put together this season. It is going to provide new opportunities at great golf courses against high-level competition,” Roachell said of the schedule. “In order to compete at the highest level in the postseason, we need to have those experiences in the regular season as well. This schedule will challenge us to raise our level as we continue to prepare to make a run at a championship!”
The year starts in Manhattan, Kansas, with the PowerCat Invitational on September 9th. Up next is another tournament hosted by cats, as Central Arkansas heads to Penn State for the Nittany Lion Invitational.
October sees the team play in three tournaments, starting with Kansas’ Sunflower Invitational on October 7th and 8th. The Bears play the first of back-to-back tournaments in Arkansas on October 14th and 15th over at Sage Meadows Country Club, participating in Arkansas State’s Lady Red Wolves Classic. The fall semester ends the next week, with the Diamante Intercollegiate in Hot Springs.
Central Arkansas picks up again in February, heading down to Orlando to play in the UCF Challenge. March opens in Puerto Rico, with the Bears playing in Ball State’s Puerto Rico Shootout. Then, it’s off to an ASUN opponent on March 23rd, as the Bears participate in Kennesaw State’s Pinetree Collegiate. The final two tournaments of the regular season start the month of April, with the UL Women’s Invitational ending on April 1st, and the Mo’, hosted by Texas A&M, on April 7th and 8th. The Bears then gear up for the ASUN Championships in Huntsville, Alabama from April 12th-15th.
The Bears return a solid core from last season’s squad, including senior Madison Holmes, who was an All-ASUN golfer, and Gudrun Thorsteinsdottir, who etched herself on the league’s All-Freshman Team last season. Junior Valeria Ramirez looks to continue to impress as well, after a successful summer saw her win the Genesis of Conway Central Arkansas Open.
