EASTON, Mass. (February 6, 2025) – The Stonehill College women’s golf team was slated to finish fourth in the Northeast Conference as voted on by the 11 other coaches, the conference announced on Thursday.
Receiving seven of the 12 first-place votes was Howard University, who finished third at NEC Championships last spring. Trailing the Bison with three votes is FDU, followed by LIU in third place.
Stonehill, along with NC Central, received one first-place vote as the two teams placed fourth and fifth. Delaware State, Saint Francis, Wagner, and Le Moyne ranked sixth through ninth in that order. NEC newcomers Mercyhurst and Chicago State placed 10th and 11th, followed by Maryland Eastern Shore in the 12th spot to round out the poll.
With head coach Nick Crovetti in his eighth season at the helm of the Stonehill women’s golf program, this year’s fourth-place ranking is the Skyhawks’ best finish in an NEC poll since moving up to the Division I level in 2022.
“At last year’s conference tournament, we polled 9th — and finished T-6th; the effort and performance has taken us on an upward trajectory ever since, which continued into the fall, highlighted by a second-place team finish in Pittsburgh,” said coach Crovetti. “The team is demonstrating a lot of parity and consistency, so I’m not surprised by the poll. We are looking forward to a challenging spring slate of events, which should help prepare us for the Conference Championship in April.”
The Skyhawks have been on a steady trajectory upwards in the NEC since making their debut in the spring of 2023. In their first season in the conference, the Skyhawks placed 10th before finishing in a tie for sixth place last spring. Now, with two years of division I experience under its belt, Stonehill looks to be in the running for one of the top spots in the conference this spring.
Key returner, sophomore Helen Brodahl, already got off to a strong start this fall, earning NEC Women’s Golfer of the Month in October. She led the Skyhawks with a 76.5 scoring average over eight rounds of competition in three different tournaments in October. Brodahl also made program history by posting the first event win in the program’s eight-year history with a program record of 71 at the Skyhawk Senior Showdown last April.
Classmate Kenna Roman, who had an outstanding finish at last spring’s NEC Championships, also returns for the Skyhawks. Roman notched the first collegiate top ten finish of her career and the highest individual finish by a Stonehill golfer at NEC Championships with a program-best, three-round score of 226 (75-74-77) to finish tied for ninth in the individual standings in a field of 61 golfers.
Stonehill women’s golf begins its spring season in Palm Coast, Fla., at the Hammock Beach Golf Resort in a three-day invitational hosted by Purdue Fort Wayne beginning on March 12. Other teams competing in the tournament are the University of Illinois at Chicago, Saint Francis, Bryant University, Chicago State, and Indiana State University.
