Boardman, Ohio – Senior Mia Avotins (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) placed eighth to lead the Le Moyne College women’s golf team to a second-place finish on Monday at the Youngstown State University Kickoff at the par-72, 5923-yard Mill Creek Park North Golf Course.
The host Penguins won the team competition with a 17-over par total of 305. The Dolphins finished in second by posting a score of 326, the second-best score in the program’s Division I history and 12th-best overall. Westminster tallied a 339 to place third. Youngstown State’s Maddi Shoults, who played as an individual, claimed medalist honors with a four-under par score of 68.
Avotins registered three birdies and six pars en route to carding an 80 to place eighth in the 40-player field. Freshman Olivia Dahn (Bristol, Conn./St. Paul Catholic) opened her collegiate career with an 81, which featured nine pars and one birdie, to place ninth. Freshman Lauren Williams (San Francisco, Calif./University HS) tallied three birdies and six pars in her collegiate debut to place 12th with an 82. Sophomore Gianna Cafarella (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory School) posted an 83 on seven pars and one birdie to place 14th. Freshman Shreena Pennam (Southlake, Texas/Spring Creek Academy) placed 25th with a 93, which included six pars, in her first collegiate round.
