JEKYLL ISLAND, GA – The Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Golf team opened their season this week at the Coastal Georgia Women’s Winter Invitational, tying for sixth out of 14 teams. The Bears finished with rounds of 312-321 to come through with a two-round score of 633 (+57), 17 strokes better than fellow SAC school Newberry.
Leading the way for the Bears was sophomore Eve Neild, who finished in a tie for 3rd out of 77 competitors thanks to rounds of 73 and 74. This gave her a 147 (+3), tied for the best two-round score of her collegiate career. Joining Neild in the top-15 was sophomore Jaya Wilkinson, who finished in a tie for 11th. This was Wilkinson’s highest finish in a collegiate tournament. She went sub-80 in both rounds (77-75) to finish with a 152 (+8).
Charlotte Colley was the third scorer for the Bears, as she tallied rounds of 80-81 to finish with a two-round total of 161 (+17), tying her for 31st in the tournament. Newton-Conover graduate Sondra Uon tied for 53rd with a 173 (+29) after shooting rounds of 82 and 91.
The Bears will be back in action on Monday-Tuesday February 24-25 when they take part in Limestone’s Low Tide Intercollegiate. The tournament will take place in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, at the Dunes West Golf and River Club.
