MANHATTAN, Kan. – After 36 holes of golf at the Powercat Invitational to start the season, the Central Arkansas women’s golf team finds itself in a tie for seventh place, thanks to two top-25 golfers.
 
Gudrun Thorsteinsdottir, starting her sophomore year, shot a blistering 71 to open the Invitational, and settled in at 25^th after her first day. She tallied eight birdies, including six in the first round, to set herself up with a first-day score of 153. She sits in a tie with Camila Negroni, making her Central Arkansas debut. Negroni matched Thorsteinsdottir’s, but in reverse, scoring her 71 in the second round after penciling in three birdies and an eagle.
 
Madison Holmes checked in with a 157 after two rounds. She opened up her senior year with a pair of birdies in the first round. Valeria Ramirez and Emma Leroy Fabry also sit tied with Holmes at a 157 through 36 holes. Ramirez had four birdies across her first day of play, and Leroy Fabry tallied three of her own.
 
Kansas State leads as the host, sitting ten strokes above second place. North Texas and Jacksonville State round out the top-three headed into Tuesday. Nanami Nakashima, from Kansas State, holds the first spot in the individual leaderboard. K-State’s Carla Bernat and Austin Peay’s Erica Scutt round out the top-three.
