NORMAL, Ill. – The IU Indianapolis women’s golf team officially opened the 2024-25 campaign on Sunday (Sept. 8) with rounds of 313 and 318 at the Redbird Invitational, hosted by Illinois State at Weibring Golf Course. The Jaguars ended the day in 13th place of 15 teams competing at 631 (313-318). 

Sophomore Sydni Zebrauskas, playing as an individual, was the team’s low scorer in both rounds with 76 in the opening round and 77 in round two. She closed the day tied for 37th among the 93-player field. 

“In being my first 36 (holes), I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was great to get out there with such awesome women and play good golf,” Zebrauskas said. “It was definitely a good start to the season and I’m excited to get back out there tomorrow.”

Junior Reagan Sohn paced the lineup at 11-over 155 (77-78) and classmate Yanah Rolston shot 158 (79-79) for the day. Senior Nerea Lancho and rookie Cassidy Ayres each shot 161 for the day with Lancho carding an opening round 76. 

Sophomore Nina Wojtczak rounded out the lineup at 162 (81-81) and freshman Alexandra Chiew made her collegiate debut with back-to-back rounds of 89. 

Zebrauskas made four birdies on the day, including back-to-back birdies on Nos. 5 and 6 in the opening round. Sohn had a team-high five birdies, making three in her opening round. 

Host Illinois State has a commanding lead heading into the final round, finishing day one at 563 while second-place Little Rock is 27 shots off their pace. ISU’s Morgan Jones leads the field at 7-under 137 and teammate Jinyoung Yun is second at 5-under 139. Monday’s final round will begin at 8:30 a.m. CT (9:30 Eastern).
