NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women’s golf team kicks off their 2024 fall season this Monday and Tuesday at The Velvet Invitational hosted by Murray State in Paducah, Kentucky.

What’s Bruin

• The Bruins have a mix of veterans and newcomers.  They return three players from last year’s team that won one team title and posted six top-five finishes in 10 events.
• The three returners are junior Chloe Tarkany, senior Eva Graham, and sophomore Paige Hammarstrom. Tarkany ranked second on the team last year with a 75.5 average and four top-10 finishes, which included an individual title at The Velvet.  Graham had an 80.0 average and had one top-10 at the EKU Colonel Classic, while Hammarstrom had an 80.8 average and one top-30 finish.  
• There are five newcomers on this year’s squad.  The group includes two Midstate products, Sloane Biddle and Ainsley Moore, Harper Edwards from Texas, Michigan native Sophie Skoog, and Emilee Swagger from Arizona.
• At The Velvet last season, Belmont swept the team and individual titles.  They finished with a team score of 921 and Tarkany captured medalist honors in a playoff.

This week’s The Velvet is a two-day, 54-hole event with 36 holes contested on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday.  The tournament honors former Murray State head coach, Velvet Milkman, and will be held at The Country Club of Paducah.  The course will play to a par of 71 and length of 6076 yards.

The field features 14 teams and includes five other MVC teams: host Murray State, Evansville, Indiana State, Northern Iowa, and Southern Illinois.
