GOLD CANYON, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women’s golf team opened its 2025 spring slate Monday, Jan. 27, as the Eagles finished seventh in the team standings in the single-round Match in the Desert, hosted by the University of Kansas, at the Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club in Gold Canyon, Ariz. The Eagles, who faced six teams ranked in the national top 40, carded a 17-over 305 on the par-72, 6,271-yard Prospector Course with two new players donning the Block E.
How It Happened
The Eagles, ranked No. 143 according to the final fall rankings from Scoreboard, saw two of their players place in the top 15, including
Savannah de Bock (Ecaussinnes-d’enghien, Belgium/Institut de l’Enfant-Jésus-Lycée/Georgia), who tied for 11th with a 2-over 74, and newcomer
Erina Tan (Belmont, Western Australia/Mount Lawley Senior), who tied for 15th with a 3-over 75. Despite not finishing at par or better for the first time all year, de Bock, the No. 77 player in the Scoreboard rankings, joined freshman Tan, who was playing in her first collegiate tournament, finishing ahead of four players that are ranked in the top 50 individual rankings. Tan also was one of only three players in the field to record an eagle as she finished the par-5, 501-yard 13th in three strokes.
Riley Kim (Aldie, Va./Lightridge) and
Mariana Vega (Barranquilla, Columbia/Colegio Karl C. Parrish) both carded a 6-over 78 to tie for 29th in the field while
Julianna Go (San Juan, Philippines/St. Jude Catholic School/King) finished 39th with a 9-over 81.
Angelica Holman (Fort Pierce, Fla./Lincoln Park Academy/Daytona State/Georgia), who joined the program at the start of January with Tan, played the event as an individual and finished tied for 33rd with a 7-over 79 in her first tournament as an NCAA Division I player. Holman played the previous two seasons at Daytona State College where she captured the individual title at the 2024 NJCAA Championships while helping her team to the national crown.
