Clemson, S.C. – Three Catamount women’s golfers made their collegiate debuts and all six on the roster competed in the first event under head coach Anne Marie Covar as Western Carolina opened its 2024-25 season on Monday with two rounds and 36 holes at Clemson’s Tiger Classic hosted at the par-72, 6,209-yard John E. Walker Golf Course
 
Freshmen Annalee Caveney (Raleigh, N.C.) and Madison Lehr (Mechanicsville, Va.) paced the Catamount scoring five in their first intercollegiate competition on Monday. Caveney carded consecutive rounds of 4-over par 76 to shoot 152 to lead the team in a tie for 47th overall, slipping three spots over the final 18 holes. Lehr slid nine positions after following her first-round 77 with a second-round 78 for a 36-hole score of 155 to leave her in a tie for 60th.
 
Returning Catamount Elizabeth Lohbauer (156) was WCU’s biggest mover from the first to second rounds, cutting four strokes off her first-round 80 for a second-round 76 to come home amidst a tie for 68th. Kaitlyn Wingean finished tied for 73rd overall with scores of 78 and 79 (157). Rounding out WCU’s lineup was a third freshman as Canadian-born Ella Kozak posted rounds of 77 and 82 to place in a tie for 79th.
 
Playing unattached as an individual, junior Sadler Miller was in 62nd after an opening round 78 before sliding into a tie for 75th after play concluded.
 
Wingnean led the Catamounts with four birdies on Monday including three in the second round alone. Caveney posted a pair of birdies on the opening 18 holes, finishing with three over the 36-hole event. WCU’s remaining four golfers each carded two birdies apiece.
 
Georgia Southern cruised to the team championship by 13 strokes over second-place Campbell on Monday. The Eagles carded a two-round score of 559 with the Camels finishing at 572. The host Tigers were five strokes in arrears of the runner-up position at 577 with Southern Conference foes UNCG (584) and Mercer (590) rounding out the top five.
 
GSU’s Louise Reau rallied 10 positions over the final 18 holes on the strength of a 7-under par round of 65 for a total of 137 to win the individual medalist honors over first-round leader Alicia Olsson of Campbell (138). The Eagles put three inside the individual top five while three Camels finished inside the top 10.
 
Western Carolina returns to action Sept. 9-10 at the Green Wave Invitational, hosted by Tulane at TPC Louisiana in Avondale, La.
