Greensboro, Ga. – Western Carolina women’s golf fired a final-round score of 310 to cap the spring-opening three-day Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational by advancing to 13th place in the final team standings with a score of 937 as play concluded Sunday at the par-72, 6,195-yard National course at Reynolds Lake Oconee.
Junior Sadler Miller was WCU’s biggest mover on the day, climbing eight spots over the final 18 holes after carding her tournament-best round of 4-over par 76 to finish tied for 60th overall. The Clayton, N.C., product carded a birdie against five bogeys. Freshman Ella Kozak carded her best round of the tournament at 3-over par 75, countering six bogeys with a trio of birdies. The Canadian-born striker advanced four spots in the final standings to finish 73rd.
The Catamounts were led by Elizabeth Lohbauer who slid 17 positions after shooting a 6-over par 79 on Sunday for a three-round total of 231. She added a fifth birdie over the final 18 holes. Freshman Madison Lehr finished tied for 48th at 233 after shooting 80 on Sunday. Rounding out WCU’s scoring five was freshman Annalee Caveney in 81st with a three-round total of 251.
Western Kentucky overtook 36-hole leader No. 26 Florida to win the team championship. The Hilltoppers shot a tournament-best round of 287 for a three-round score of 884, six strokes better than the Gators at 890. Event-host Mercer climbed two positions in the final standings to finish in a two-way tie for third with Boston College at 902, while fellow SoCon foe UNCG advanced three spots into fifth with a three-day score of 906.
Florida Atlantic’s Charlotte Perkins overtook second-round leader Catie Craig of Western Kentucky with a final-round 2-under par 70 to claim the individual medalist honors by a stroke, 217-to-218. WKU’s Sydney Hackett was two strokes off the lead in third, while her teammate Kaylee Dwyer climbed 12 spots into fourth to help the ‘Toppers to the title.
Western Carolina returns to action next week, March 4-6 at the Puerto Rico Classic, hosted by Ball State at the Palmas del Mar Country Club – Flamboyan Course in Humacao, Puerto Rico. Last season, Lohbauer posted a fifth-place individual finish in guiding the Catamounts to a fifth-place team finish.
