BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Paced by four Midshipmen finishing in the top-10, the Navy women’s golf team cruised on its way to winning the Lehigh Invitational on Sunday at the Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa.
Playing on the par-72, 6012-yard Grace Course, Navy surged ahead after Saturday’s opening round by posting a tournament-low 300 score that is the second best by the Mids this season. Navy then closed out the tournament with a 314 round on Sunday, finishing with a title-winning weekend total of 38-over par 614. UAlbany finished as the tournament runner-up at 60-over par 636, while FDU, Fairfield and host Lehigh tied for third place.
Ending the weekend as the individual runner-up, freshman Megan Kirkpatrick opened play with a round of 77 on Saturday before improving to a 75 on Sunday, closing the tournament at an 8-over par 152 that was just two strokes behind individual medalist Katelynn Waclawski of Fairfield.
Finishing one stroke behind Kirkpatrick, sophomore Emma Tang continued her impressive autumn by taking third place at 9-over par 153, posting rounds of 74 and 79.
Tying for sixth, sophomore Keira Howard stumbled a bit on Sunday after being atop the leaderboard on Saturday, but her rounds of 73 and 82 helped put her at 11-over par 155. Matching Howard was junior Hallie Brisco, as her rounds of 76 and 79 placed her in sixth as well at 11-over par 155.
Rounding out the Navy lineup was freshman Vivian Cressman, who tied for 22nd with a weekend total of 18-over par 162 (81-81).
The win marks Navy’s second tournament title of the fall season, following the Mids’ record-breaking victory at the Navy Fall Invitational in late September.
Navy closes the fall season on Monday and Tuesday when senior captain Bridget Hoang and junior Sue Lee compete in the 2024 Jackson T. Stephens Cup in Nichols Hills, Okla.
