Team Scoring
KAPOLEI, Hawai’i (EMUEagles.com) – Savannah de Bock
finished in the top 10 individually for the fourth time this season while five players fired career-low 54-hole scores to help the Eastern Michigan University women’s golf team break the program’s low-tournament score to see the Eagles finish strongly at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational. The three-day tournament took place at the Kapolei Golf Course in Kapolei, Hawai’i, Oct. 23-25, with the Eagles placing 11th overall in the 15-team field on the par-72, 6,231-yard course.
How It Happened
Eastern continued to improve over the course of the three rounds, carding scores of 300, 290, and 289 to shoot 15-over, 879 and finish 11th overall. Colorado State University (-23) and Kansas State University (-20) took the top two positions in the team standings with Grand Canyon University and the University of California, Irvine tying for third at 9-under.
As a team, the Eagles’ 879 team score broke the school record of 880 that was set Sept. 21-22, 2015, at the Cardinal Classic. To reach the record, the team shot 289 in the third round to post the fourth-lowest score in program history with the 290 carded in round two tying for the fifth lowest. All told, those two frames marked just the second time this year the Eagles have carded two rounds of 299 or better in the same tournament and the first since the season-opening Leadership and Golf Invitational, Sept. 16-17, in Washington.
Individually,
de Bock (Ecaussinnes-d’enghien, Belgium/Institut de l’Enfant-Jésus-Lycée/Georgia) was the top finisher for the Eagles once again as the 53rd-ranked player in the NCAA tied for seventh place with a 5-under 211 (72-71-68), marking the fourth consecutive event she has played this year and finished in the top eight individually. After playing all three rounds at or below par, de Bock’s 211 ranks tied for the second-best in program history with
Anna Watson, who shot the then-school record at the Shirley Spork Invitational at EMU, Oct. 2-3, 2023. De Bock holds the school record after shooting a 204 at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic, Sept. 23-25.
Two other Eagles finished in the top 50 with
Mariana Vega (Barranquilla, Columbia/Colegio Karl C. Parrish) shooting a 3-over 219 (76-71-72) to tie for 32nd while
Riley Kim (Aldie, Va./Lightridge) tied for 42nd with her 6-over 222 (79-72-71).
Amaya Melendez (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) tied for 71st at 15-over, 231 (74-79-78) while
Julianna Go (San Juan, Philippines/St. Jude Catholic School/King) tied for 75th at 16-over, 232 (78-76-78).
Maddysun Beeching (Camberley, Surrey, England/Millfield School), playing as an individual, competed in her first collegiate event, lowering her scores in each round to finish 90th at 27-over (84-82-77=242).
