Wisconsin basketball (13-3, 3-2 Big Ten) fell just outside of the top 25 of the USA TODAY Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll on Monday. The latest edition was released following the Badgers’ 2-0 week — wins against a pair of conference foes.

Wisconsin was placed in the ‘receiving votes’ category with 29 total votes, a 26-vote improvement from last week’s standing. That number tied UW with Arizona for the 27th-highest total.

Greg Gard’s group has won five straight contests following its three-game skid in early December to Michigan, Illinois and Marquette. Three of those victories have arrived against Big Ten teams, including vs. Rutgers and Minnesota on Jan. 6 and Jan. 10, respectively. UW allowed just 122 combined points in those contests. The Badgers’ complementary play during their winning stretch has propelled their standing as a much-improved two-way team.

Other outlets have arrived at the same conclusion. Wisconsin now sits at No. 21 in KenPom and No. 27 in ESPN BPI with a Jan. 14 test against Ohio State on the horizon.

Auburn sits atop latest coaches poll top 25 after improving to 15-1. The Tigers are followed by Iowa State (14-1), Duke (14-2), Florida (15-1) and Alabama (14-2). Tennessee, the perennial No. 1 squad, dropped five spots following its recent loss to Florida.

Big Ten teams in the top 25 are Michigan State (No. 12), Oregon (No. 14), Purdue (No. 15), Michigan (No. 19) and Illinois (No. 20). UCLA fell out of the rankings from No. 21 after an 0-2 week. Maryland and Indiana also received votes alongside Wisconsin.

The Badgers will look for their sixth straight win when Ohio State visits the Kohl Center on Tuesday. They are sure to enter the coaches’ top 25 if that winning streak continues.
