Wisconsin football made quite the offseason splash on social media on Friday.
In the midst of winter workouts, the Badgers‘ social media team dropped a 13-second clip featuring a snow-laden Badger helmet and a slight hint at a potential spring scrimmage date — April 19, 2025.
The timeline would make sense given last offseason’s itinerary. Wisconsin hosted a de-facto spring game on April 28, 2024, during the team’s 13th practice during the spring period. While the Badgers don’t host an official spring game between their offensive and defensive units, the social media post suggests a potential notable development.
Last season’s spring practice finale offered significant insight into where Wisconsin’s personnel would line up on each side of the football during the 2024 campaign. For example, former starting running back Tawee Walker and returning wide receiver Trech Kekahuna showcased their skill sets for those in attendance. The two would ultimately star as top options for Fickell’s team come September.
The Badgers ended the 2024 campaign at 5-7 in what became one of the more disappointing seasons in program history. Wisconsin’s only wins arrived against Western Michigan, South Dakota, Purdue, Rutgers and Northwestern — programs considered perpetually subpar.
With an entirely new system in place, fans will enter the spring window with more questions than answers. Wisconsin enters the season with a new quarterback in Maryland transfer Billy Edwards Jr., along with newly-appointed offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes.
With Fickell extended throughout the 2032 season, the Badgers will look to establish a long-lasting culture while shifting its offensive philosophy. That change could be on full display during the spring window, which may culminate in a scrimmage-adjacent scenario in late April.
