LAKE CITY, Minn. – The Winona State men’s golf team placed second out of 13 teams at their home tournament, a two-day tournament held at The Jewel in Lake City, Minn. The Warriors had two teams competing with the second Warriors team finishing in 11th.
The Warriors team (A) carded a 576 (+4) after scores of 301 and 275 on each day to earn a second place finish. WSU’s team (B) carded a 600 (+28) after scores of 298 and 302.
Competing for the Warriors on team (A) was Luke Maas, Peyton Coahran, Tyler Johnson, Diego Olano and Javier Ramos Casariego. Sophomore Luke Maas led WSU carding a 140 (-3) through the two-day event, good for a tie for third individually. Peyton Coahran would be next up for the Warriors shooting a 143 (E), carding a 76 and 67 on both days. Javier Ramos Casariego would finish in a tie for 18th with a 146 (+3) and Tyler Johnson would shoot a 149 (+6). Diego Olano would round out WSU, carding a 152 (+9) through the two-day invitational.
On the other Warriors team competing was Logan Chouinard, Max Jericho, Marc Bota, Stratton Deneke, and Tyler Gandrud. Combining for a 600 (+28) on both days, this team was led by Logan Chouinard who carded a 71 (E) and 71(-1) for a 142, good for a four way tie for eighth. Marc Bota would earn a 152 (+9) through both days of the Invitational with Max Jericho coming in right behind him with a 153 (+10) as well. Stratton Deneke would card a 156 (+13) and Tyler Gandrud earned a 166 (+23) to round out the Warriors.
Competing as an individual for Winona State was Juan Carlos Feregrino Ponce who would card a 158 (+15).
Winona State is next in action at the Regional Preview on Monday, October 7 and Tuesday, October 8 in St. Joseph Mo. held at the St. Joseph Country Club.
