Roger Federer enjoyed a fantastic tennis career in which he wowed fans with his artistry on court.
No player has played the game with such elegance and at times the 20-time Grand Slam champion seemed to make the game look ridiculously easy.
Throughout his career Federer, a winner of 103 ATP Tour titles, used Wilson rackets, and it was a match made in heaven.
Now two years after his career has come to an end, a Wilson racket manufacturer has discussed what Roger Federer was like to work with.
Federer used Wilson rackets throughout his career and him using them to systematically dissect his opponents was a sight to behold.
But what fans may not know is that the former World number one had a specific way in which decided which racket to use.
In fact, ‘Racket Ron’, a Wilson racket manufacturer who worked with Federer, appeared on Andy Roddick’s ‘Served’ podcast and expressed his admiration how forward thinking the Swiss Maestro was.
“What struck me with him is that he was looking way ahead. He was never looking for a racket to play with next year,” Racket Ron said.
“He was always looking for the racket he might need in three years. So every time he switched, that process started at least two years before he switched.”
Though he no longer plays professional tennis, Federer released a new racket collection in 2024. In August, he appeared on Tennis Channel to release a line of rackets titled ‘The RF Collection’.
The rackets were released on August 8, which was the date of Federer’s 43rd birthday. The first racket is called RF 01 Pro, which Federer had personally customised for his own use.
Secondly, the RF 01 caters to advanced adult players while younger players can use the RF 01 Future to enhance their skills.
“Having spent my whole career playing with Wilson racket, I’m excited about the new RF Collection that we’ve created together,” Federer wrote in a press release.
“I hope the collection inspires the stars of today as much as I was inspired the first time that I picked up a Wilson racket.”
