The more I watch videos of golf cart-friendly communities, the more I want to live in one. Too bad I live in Connecticut, where warm weather is short-lived. Did you know that despite our relatively brief summer, golf cart-friendly communities exist here in Connecticut?
Are you jealous of your friends and relatives that moved out of Connecticut to a spacious, golf cart-friendly neighborhood down South? I watch videos of my recently retired friends having the times of their lives wheeling EZ-GO golf carts down the streets of Savannah, Myrtle Beach, and all over Florida, and I want that lifestyle.
My first choice in Connecticut would be to live in the golf cart-friendly confines of Candlewood Knowles in New Fairfield on Candlewood Lake. Golf cart drivers in this private, gated community must have headlights, 16+ years of age, and adhere to the general rules of the road. I fell in love with this beautiful neighborhood when I had to attend a ski and wakeboard competition, and I had a blast hitching rides with the neighbors. Multiple golf cart-friendly communities have started to grow along the coastline, like Point O’ Woods Beach in South Lyme, which allows registered, insured golf cart owners to enjoy their community, as long as speeds are kept below 15MPH.
Norwalk just recently shot down a proposal that would have allowed golf carts to use city streets, according to nancyonnorwalk.com. My ‘white whale’ dream retirement community has always been Southbury’s Heritage Village, but now that Friendly’s is long gone, I may give up on them.
Oh my sweet hoodie, the smell of crunchy, sun-withered leaves in the 52 degree air, and those vivid bursts of color that stun us every year. I love this time of year, and the first signs of it have just appeared in New Preston, Bantam, and Litchfield.
