The Green Bay Packers‘ run of consecutive primetime games will officially end next Monday night in Week 16.
The Packers game at the Minnesota Vikings in Week 17 will not be flexed from its original noon time slot on Sunday, Dec. 29.
The NFL announced its updated schedule for the penultimate week of the regular season Tuesday, revealing the three games it was moving from Sunday to Saturday and if there would be a “flex” for the Sunday night game.
It wasn’t surprising that the previously scheduled Cleveland Browns-Miami Dolphins game got moved out of the “Sunday Night Football” slot. But it was just a matter of what matchup would get picked instead.
Sunday night’s new matchup for Week 17 is the Atlanta Falcons against the Washington Commanders.
The Falcons-Commanders game could have NFC wild-card implications and Packers fans likely will have interest since Washington (9-5) is still just a game behind the Packers in the NFC playoff standings. Atlanta (7-7) also is fighting for a playoff spot.
Green Bay (10-4) began its stretch of four straight primetime games on Thanksgiving night at home against the Dolphins in Week 13. It then played at Detroit on “Thursday Night Football” in Week 14 before playing on Sunday night last week at the Seattle Seahawks. The Packers return home for a “Monday Night Football” contest against the New Orleans Saints on Dec. 23.
The NFL has a unique schedule in Week 17 with games spread out across five days, starting with two games on Christmas − Wednesday, Dec. 25 − and extending to Monday night, Dec. 30.
A lot will be at stake for the Packers-Vikings game in Week 17.
The Vikings (12-2) will be contending for the NFC North title and playoff seeding. The Packers, who could have a playoff spot locked up a week earlier, will look to maintain their position in the playoff standings.
In Jordan Love’s return from an injury in the season opener, the Packers lost the first matchup with the Vikings, 31-29 at Lambeau Field in Week 4.
The Week 17 game will be televised on Fox.
Fox chose to keep the Dallas Cowboys-Philadelphia Eagles game in the featured 3:25 p.m. slot on Sunday, Dec. 29, in Week 17, instead of potentially swapping it with the Packers-Vikings.
