PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Mexico – ACU opened the 2025 spring men’s golf season with a solid first-round performance Sunday at the Playa Paraiso Golf Club.

The Wildcats fired a nine-over-par 297 and are in third place after the first round, just four strokes behind 16th-ranked SMU, which leads the tournament after a first-round 293. UT-San Antonio is second at 8-over-par, followed by ACU and North Texas at 9-over-par, and UTEP in fifth at 10-over-par.

ACU junior Thomas Buisson and freshman Colin Leonard are tied with a group at 1-over-par after Sunday’s round, good for 11th place in the individual standings. Buisson carded a 1-over-par 37 on the front and was even-par 36 on the back-nine for his 73.

Leonard, meanwhile, shot 1-under-par 35 on the front nine and bounced back from a double-bogey six on the 10th hole, finishing the back nine at 2-over-par 38 for a total of 73. Jaime Lewis is in 23rd for ACU after a first-round score of 75, followed by Gregoire Hoyeua in 32nd at 4-over-par 76, Jack Hollingsed at 7-over-par 79, and Trenton Johnson (playing as an individual) at 5-over-par 77.

Louis Anceaux of Louisiana-Monroe leads the individual leaderboard after carding a first-round 68 (4-under-par) on Sunday, followed by Jose Ramirez from Wichita State and Aaron Jarvis from SMU tied for second at 3-under-par 69. The second round of the tournament will tee off at 8:30 a.m. Monday, and the final round is set to start at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
