WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Wichita’s City Council passes a new ordinance to regulate the use of golf carts on city streets.
The council asked a lot of questions this morning about the limitation of drivers under 18, and why police recommended excluding the Delano District of approved roadways for golf carts.
The ordinance passed requires golf cart drivers to be 18 and to have a valid drivers license. It allows carts on any streets outside the city’s “core area” with a speed limit of under 30 mph. Golf carts must display a “slow-moving vehicle and cannot be operated at night.
Owners will be required to pay a $75 yearly tax and have proof of liability coverage. The ordinance is planned to go into effect in April.
