Swampcast discusses Florida football road challenge at No. 5 Texas

AUSTIN, Texas — Florida football freshman quarterback DJ Lagway, a Willis, Texas, native, worked hard to return from a hamstring pull to play in his home state against No. 5 Texas.
The 6-foot-3, 239-pound Lagway went through pregame warmups but wasn’t ready to play on Saturday afternoon. The Florida Gators struggled playing third-string quarterback Aidan Warner, falling 49-17 to the Longhorns before 103,375 at Darrel K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
Lagway was carted off the field after pulling his hamstring in the second quarter during UF’s 34-20 loss to Georgia.
“He probably felt as good as he’s felt since the injury today pregame,” Florida football coach Billy Napier said. “That’s kind of what he voiced to me. But not quite ready. I think there was risk with putting him out there with a soft-tissue injury. All of the metrics said he’s not quite ready to do it but we’re hopeful. He’s made some progress and we’ll get a good feel for it early next week.”
Warner went 12 of 25 for 132 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. He led UF on two touchdown drives in the second half.
“Any time you get game reps against a really good football team, that’s something you can learn from.” said Florida wide receiver Chimere Dike, who had 5 catches for 95 yards. “He came out there and competed for four quarters. I think he’ll continue to get better and move forward.”
