Here is a little more about each candidate:
Skiing for the Grand Haven co-op, the Saugatuck junior claimed the Division 1 state championship in the slalom, the first skiing state title in the area.
The senior heavyweight became the first girls wrestler in West Ottawa history to win the state championship match. She also is the first four-time all-state girls wrestler in area history.
At 150 pounds, the Division 2 wrestler rallied to a third-place finish at the state tournament at Ford Field.
The 120-pounder pinned his first state opponent in just 35 seconds. He continued to battle and earned a 6-2 decision in the Division 2 third-place match.
Hawkeyes grappler finished third in Division 2 at 144 pounds. He reached the semifinals, lost, then rallied to finish third in the state.
The senior was the top individual state qualifier from the Division 1 regional, totaling 1,255 pins to reach the state tournament.
The bowler reached the state finals as an individual qualifier and finished 28th at the Division 1 state tournament.
The Panthers center provided the key defensive play with a blocked shot on a dunk attempt in a district semifinal win over Zeeland East. West Ottawa went on to win the district title.
The senior center scored 16 points, including the dunk that sealed the Division 2 district finals win over rival Hamilton.
The senior guard scored 16 points and passed the 1,000-point milestone on senior night as the Dux held off Wyoming. She is just the second girls player to reach 1,000 points at Zeeland West.
The senior reached 1,000 career points in a win over Allendale on Tuesday. She is just the second Holland Christian girls player to reach the 1,000-point plateau. She also was in double figures when the Maroons upset Hudsonville on Thursday.
Senior forward reached 20 points in each of his district games last week, leading the Dutch past Zeeland West in the first round, but Holland came up just short against Grand Haven in the semifinals.
The sophomore guard scored better than 20 points in the team’s final two home games to lead the Trailblazers to a 20-1 regular season record.
The Dux 106-pounder finished eighth to become Zeeland West’s first all-state wrestler since 2016.
The 120-pounder became an all-state performer for the Dutch at Ford Field.
The senior won the OK Metro conference championship in the 200 freestyle in 1:39.41 and 100 backstroke in 50.76.
The Maroons senior claimed the OK Lakeshore conference title in the 100 breaststroke in 57.64 and also finished second in the 100 butterfly (53.12).
Panthers distance swimmer claimed the OK Red Conference title in both the 200 freestyle in 1:45.19 and 500 freestyle (4:53.71).
Hawkeyes speedster won the 200 freestyle in 1:44.11 and the 100 butterfly (52.56) at the OK Lakeshore Championships.
Schut won the OK Lakeshore conference championship in diving with 478.00 points.
