BATTLE CREEK – Behind a field that was the largest in recent memory, the 47th annual Calhoun County Amateur Golf Tournament began Saturday at Binder Park Golf Course with Day 1 action.
The 82-player field of the 2024 Cal-Am tournament included defending champ Chris Voegler, as well as several golfers looking to take the title.
Voegler, who won the event for the first time last year, led after the first day with a round of 67. Tyler Shore was three shots back at 70 with Trevor Raymond sitting in third with a 71. A group of three followed with a 73, including Ben Anderson, John Blasius and Mike Janz.
Steve Martin was first in the Senior Division after carding a 71, followed by Dale Choma with a 72 and Ken Bjornson and Scott Hodoval each at 73.
Mike Sequite was first in the Super Senior Division after the first day with a 73, followed by Doug Bess at 78.
