The New York Jets have provided plenty of optimism as of late thanks to the addition of head coach Aaron Glenn.
While the bench boss has inspired, players still need to get the job done on the field in New York. Who can lead the way there for the Jets?
Pro Football Focus provided their answer and it’s Olu Fashanu.
The first-round rookie for the Jets did not have the best start in New York. That’s mostly because he was not starting as the team wanted to bring him along slowly behind veterans.
Once Fashanu got in the lineup, he did impress, including five-straight starts in the second half of the season.
During that spell, Fashanu earned his best PFF grade of the season in Week 10 against the Arizona Cardinals, a 75.7 overall. In addition, the outlet’s metrics did not grade him lower than a 63.3 mark following that Cardinals outing.
That late-season consistency will provide plenty of optimism.
PFF’s full breakdown on Fashanu can be found below:
Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses are free agents this offseason, which means that both probably won’t return. That may not be a negative thing, because the Jets have Fashanu waiting in the wings. The Penn State product generated only a 61.2 PFF overall grade in his first year, but his allowing of only one sack on 372 pass-blocking snaps — while playing left tackle, right tackle and even right guard — is a sign of things to come.
