White House says reports of Israel shutting down Al Jazeera locally is ‘concerning’ – video
White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre said on 1 April that if reports were true that Israel was trying to shut down the news network Al Jazeera within the country, it would be ‘concerning’.
Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, revived moves on Monday to shut down the Qatari satellite television station Al Jazeera in Israel and the law to do so was approved in its final readings on Monday.
Netanyahu said: ‘I intend to act immediately in accordance with the new law to stop the channel’s activity.’ Israel has previously accused the station of agitating against it among Arab viewers
