COLUMBIA — South Carolina football is No. 15 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings released Tuesday.
The Gamecocks (8-3, 5-3 SEC) improved from No. 18. Before this season, the highest they had been was No. 19 after they beat Clemson in 2022.
South Carolina defeated Wofford 56-12 last week for a fifth-straight win, and now close the season in a high-stakes rivalry game against Clemson on Saturday (noon, ESPN) at Memorial Stadium.
The Tigers (9-2, 7-1 ACC) are No. 12 in the CFP rankings, after being No. 17 last week.
The Tigers have two potential paths to the CFP but according to ESPN’s FPI, their best chance is to win the ACC championship and land an automatic bid but Miami has to lose to Syracuse. Clemson can’t think of the CFP without a win against the Gamecocks, and South Carolina’s chances hinge on a win against the Tigers although there would be a lot of teams to jump.
The Gamecocks are ranked No. 14 in the US LBM Coaches Poll and Clemson is No. 12.
