Steph Curry is back in Akron to talk Underrated Golf. Curry, who was given the Ambassador of Golf Award, welcomed young golfers to Firestone Country Club on Saturday.

Is Steph Curry from Akron? Could the basketball superstar really be from the same city as LeBron James?
Yes.
The Beacon Journal reported in 2015 that not only was Curry born in Akron, but he was born at the same hospital as James.
Arguably the two best NBA players of their generation were born at Akron City Hospital, now known as Summa Health System, just 39 months apart.
“If you want your kid to be an NBA player, have them delivered here at Summa,” Dr. Edward Ferris, residency director and vice chair of obstetrics and gynecology at Summa Akron City Hospital, joked with the Beacon Journal in 2015.

Curry’s father, Dell Curry, played the 1987-88 season for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Wardell Stephen “Steph” Curry II was born March 14, 1988.
Although he was born in Akron, Steph Curry largely grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina as his father played for the Hornets from 1988 to 1998.
Steph Curry came back to Akron in 2023 helping advocate for more diversity in golf.
Curry and James may be the most well-known NBA players to come from the Rubber City, but they’re not the only ones.
Akron’s exports in the NBA right now also include Malachi Branham of the San Antonio Spurs, Chris Livingston of the Milwaukee Bucks and Larry Nance Jr. of the Atlanta Hawks.

Thurmond and Gus Johnson played together on the famous Central High School teams in the 1950s. They’re both members of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The duo was inducted into the Akron Public Schools Athletics Hall of Fame in 2023 when James also received a special honor.
