Indiana women’s basketball finally got a signature win in one of its final chances of the season.
Indiana dominated No. 8 Ohio State at Assembly Hall last week, leading nearly the entire game — at some points by 15 or more. That win took Indiana off the bubble for the NCAA Tournament. The Hoosiers are no longer in the last four byes section of ESPN’s bracketology, and they bumped up a seed line as well.
It was perfect timing, too, as Indiana doesn’t have many games left for big wins. The Hoosiers have a Quad 2 opponent in Maryland and Quad 4 opponent in Purdue left on their schedule before the Big Ten Tournament.
Each week, IndyStar will look at how IU fared the previous week, analyzing the Hoosiers’ potential March Madness resume.
Here are the quad specifications for women’s basketball:
Quad 1: home 1-25, neutral 1-35, road 1-45
Quad 2: home 26-55, neutral 36-65, road 46-80
Quad 3: home 56-90, neutral 66-105, road 81-130
Quad 4: home 91-plus, neutral 106-plus, road 131-plus
NET rankings are not officially established until all games are played, so a team can move up or down based on results. That can also affect opponents’ quad records if a team moves in-between quads.

Feb. 20: 71-61 win vs Ohio State (NET No. 18): This was the signature win that Indiana desperately needed. This Quad 1 victory, which saw Indiana lead by as many as 15 points in the fourth quarter, took the Hoosiers off the bubble for the NCAA Tournament and, in most projections, bumped them up a seed line.
Feb. 23: 73-65 loss at Michigan State (NET No. 21): Especially on the road, Indiana couldn’t keep its momentum up after that big win against Ohio State. The Hoosiers had some fight in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to four points in one instance, but this was another opportunity for a quality Quad 1 road win that slipped away from the Hoosiers.
Feb. 27: vs. Maryland (NET No. 27): This is just barely a Quad 2 opponent for the Hoosiers — with the game being at home, Maryland is two spots away from being in the first category. Still, with the rankings being fluid, this is one final opportunity for the Hoosiers to improve their March Madness resume ahead of the Big Ten Tournament.
March 2: at Purdue (NET No. 142): This was a Quad 4 opponent for Indiana when the two teams first played in February, and Purdue has only fallen in the rankings since then. The Boilermakers have the lowest NET ranking in the Big Ten by far, so a victory will not help the Hoosiers much in their March Madness resume, but a loss would be disastrous.
