With National Signing Day for the 2025 recruiting class coming next week, it’s a good time to look back on where the top quarterbacks in the country will be playing next fall.
All of these players made things official during the Early Signing Period in December, and I confirmed with each one of them that they’ll enroll early to get a head start on their true freshmen seasons with spring practice.
Six of the top seven quarterbacks in the class decommitted from a school during their recruiting process, which is not much of a surprise due to players committing earlier than ever combined with NIL. With the amount of movement especially at the QB position, it would be a major surprise if each of these players stays with their team through the entirety of their college careers.
The top-10 quarterbacks are ranked by where they landed in the 247Sports Composite rankings at the position.
The top story of the 2025 recruiting cycle has to go to five-star Bryce Underwood, the top-rated quarterback in the class. The Michigan native ultimately signed with the Wolverines in November with help from a substantial NIL package after being committed to LSU for more than 10 months.
Following a lengthy commitment to SMU, five-star Keelon Russell flipped to Alabama in June as the Crimson Tide were able to hang on. His dad told me Texas, Texas A&M, Oregon and Colorado reached out to him down the stretch of his recruitment but credited the program’s ability to develop NFL players in sticking with Alabama.
Five-star Tavien St. Clair found his dream school very early in his recruitment with the in-state Buckeyes. The defending national champs got a commitment from him in June 2023, and there was no real threat to sway his decision. His dad told me he attended nearly every Ohio State home game this fall and is already on campus with the team.
The five-star quarterback out of California is the latest project for USC head coach Lincoln Riley. Husan Longstreet committed to Texas A&M for seven months before a flip to the Trojans in November.
Deuce Knight became an early commitment to Notre Dame’s 2025 recruiting class in September 2023, but things did not look good for the Irish after he took several game day trips to Auburn his fall. The four-star prospect flipped to the Tigers in October in a big recruiting win for head coach Hugh Freeze.
Julian Lewis was a long-time commit to USC but made things official with Colorado during the Early Signing Period. The Georgia four-star prospect spent nearly 15 months committed to the Trojans before a flip to the Buffaloes as Deion Sanders landed his QB of the future.
This one took a few different turns as the four-star QB from Hawaii committed to Cal, decommitted and eventually signed. Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele flipped from the Golden Bears to Oregon on the first day of the Early Signing Period after being committed for nearly five months. He went to bowl practices with the Ducks before a change of heart led him back to Cal a month later.
One of the early wins of the Bill Belichick era at North Carolina came when in-state QB Bryce Baker confirmed he’d stick with the Tar Heels. He committed to the previous staff all the way back in June 2023 and delayed signing after the change at head coach. The four-star QB ultimately signed, and Belichick has a good one to work with.
The centerpiece of Missouri’s 2025 recruiting class committed over Georgia, Penn State and Pitt in April, and the Tigers were able to hang on to him down the stretch. He suffered a broken fibula that ended his senior season of high school football but told me he’ll be 100% for spring practice.
The 10th-ranked quarterback prospect committed to Maryland in June, and Malik Washington stuck with the Terrapins the rest of the way. Head coach Mike Locksley had the inside track on the in-state four-star prospect, who comes in as the highest-rated player in the Terps’ 2025 recruiting class.
