The 2024 horse racing season largely concludes this Friday and Saturday with the Breeders’ Cup, a two-day event at Del Mar Racetrack in Southern California featuring 14 races.
The climax is the $6 Breeders’ Cup Classic on Saturday, with a 15-horse field. That will be televised on NBC, which picks up the final races from USA Network, which will televise Friday’s races and the first half of the Saturday card.
City of Troy is the favorite in the Classic, a 1 1/4-mile race for 3 year olds and up.

The Breeders’ Cup is the last major horse racing event of the year. The event features horses from around the world competing in 14 races over two days, with the Breeders’ Cup Classic closing out the weekend. Friday features five juvenile races. On Saturday there are nine championship races, including the weekend’s big race, the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Del Mar Racetrack is in the San Diego suburb of Del Mar. It was build in 1936 by the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, with founding member Bing Crosby playing a big role.
