Black Friday — the annual one-day shopping phenomenon that ushers in holiday gift-buying season and usually marked by deep discounts and exasperated brick-and-mortar shoppers — is fast approaching.

When is Black Friday?

Black Friday is always the Thursday after Thanksgiving, so this year, Black Friday will fall on November 29.

That gives you about nine weeks to get your shopping list in order.

Where to find the best Black Friday deals

The big-box stores such as Best Buy, Lowe’s, Sam’s Club, Target and Walmart will unveil Black Friday deals in the coming weeks.

Surveys point to surging credit card debt that could harm people for years, these experts warn, with the total swelling to a record $1.08 trillion this year, according to the New York Federal Reserve.

Forty percent of Americans are already starting the holidays with more credit card debt than a year ago, a survey by investment bank D.A. Davidson showed. And 48% will end the holidays in more debt, according to a different survey by Debt Hammer, a site devoted to helping people manage debt.
