The annual NFL Honors show took place Thursday night in New Orleans, and I believe the awards shook out the way people thought they would. At least for the most part.
In a brief respite of football-related pain for the state of Illinois, former Detroit Lions’ offensive coordinator Ben Johnson took home Assistant Coach of the Year. Buffalo Bills’ quarterback Josh Allen took home his first MVP, and in no surprise to just about anyone—Washington Commanders’ quarterback Jayden Daniels won Offensive Rookie of the Year.
That brings us to today’s Question of the Day:
NOTE: If you missed the event, you the winners list is here.
Answer: Listen, I understand Minnesota Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell did a great job with what he had to work with in 2024. Most didn’t expect much from them heading into the regular season, so for them to have had the season they had, O’Connell certainly deserves a ton of credit.
With that said, in Week 18—with both the NFC North crown and the number one seed in the conference on the line—he was out dueled by the Lions coach Dan Campbell. Once that happened, I figured if it came down to Campbell or O’Connell, the obvious choice would be the coach with the 2-0 record in head-to-head matchups.
I also get that expectations were really high for the Lions to begin the year, but as we all know—they dealt with just a teench of attrition throughout the course of the season. I guess what I’m asking is: what does Dan Campbell have to to do in order to add this award to his soon-to-be-expanding trophy case? 16-1?
