Jannik Sinner has dominated the ATP Tour in 2024 winning two Grand Slam titles and reaching world number one.
Sinner won the Australian Open this January and went on to win the US Open in September.
He also added three Masters 1000 titles to his resume, with Sinner beating Novak Djokovic at the Shanghai Masters, the most recent triumph.
Sinner’s success at the top of the ATP Tour has guaranteed himself the year-end number-one ranking for the first time in his young career.
However, such a brilliant season doesn’t happen without hard work.
Before Sinner heads to Paris in a bid to win a fourth Masters 1000 title of the season, he visited Monaco for some practice and racket testing.
Jose Morgado took to X to explain what the Italian had requested during his time in Monte-Carlo.
“Jannik Sinner was indeed testing rackets last week here in Monte-Carlo,” he said.
“Some engineers from HEAD were on site and I was told he wanted all the rackets to be black so he didn’t know what model he was testing.
“Interesting.”
The request is certainly an interesting one, but you would assume that Sinner was trying to make a decision on which racket to use without being influenced by any prior knowledge about the equipment.
Attention to detail like that, is why Sinner has been so successful in 2024.
Sinner’s 2024 has been nothing short of remarkable, breaking through to win his first two Grand Slam titles, and picking up a number of other big trophies on the ATP Tour.
But where does it rank amongst the greatest individual seasons in recent years?
Name | Year | Grand Slam titles | Masters 1000 titles | ATP 500 titles | ATP 250 titles | Total |
Jannik Sinner | 2024 | 2 | 3 | 2 | – | 7 |
Novak Djokovic | 2023 | 3 | 2 | – | 1 | 6 |
Novak Djokovic | 2021 | 3 | 1 | – | 1 | 5 |
Novak Djokovic | 2015 | 3 | 6 | 1 | – | 10 |
Novak Djokovic | 2011 | 3 | 5 | 1 | 1 | 10 |
Rafael Nadal | 2010 | 3 | 3 | 1 | – | 7 |
Whilst the Italian didn’t quite manage to win three Grand Slam titles in a year, as Nadal and Djokovic both managed, it’s still been a mighty impressive year for Sinner.
It will take some doing for anyone to ever top the Novak Djokovic dominance of 2011 or 2015 however.
Sinner will return to action at the Paris Masters on Tuesday 29 October against the winner of Ben Shelton and Felix Auger-Aliassime.
