Two new retail stores will be opening soon in central Pennsylvania.
The two new Academy Sports + Outdoors locations are coming to Harrisburg and York, marking the first time the chain has expanded into our state.
What is Academy Sports + Outdoors?
Academy Sports + Outdoors is a sporting goods chain, dating back to 1938.
The company got its start as a family business in Texas, and has since expanded to 19 states.
The stores carry athletic wear, sports equipment and other gear from brands such as Nike, Converse, Carhartt, Yeti, Adidas, Stanley and more.
They also carry items for general outdoor use, such as gear for hunting, fishing, boating, camping and hiking.
Where are the new stores?
The Harrisburg store was the first of the two to be announced and thus the first for Pennsylvania. The 65,000-square-foot store is located at 5125 Jonestown Road.
The 61,000-square-foot York store is at 2801 E. Market St., and will be the company’s 300th location.
When will the stores open?
Both stores are expected to employ around 60 people, and both open the same day of March 3.
The company has announced that each store will donate a shopping spree worth $10,000 to the Boys & Girls Club, with Harrisburg’s store doing so on March 5 and York’s on March 7.
Grand opening events for both stores will be held March 7-9.
