Back when the tourney that is now called the “NBA Cup” was still known as the awkwardly-named “in-season tournament” or IST, one of the biggest points of pushback from confused fans was the look of the special courts created for those games to be played on. The unusual and especially bright colorways with non-traditional designs interwoven into some more familiar ones were a hit with some fans (including those of the Boston Celtics), but many others decried them as garish mistakes.
Now, the hosts of the CLNS Media “How Bout Them Celtics!” podcast, Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance, recently responded to the new court supposedly created for the Celtics to play on in the 2024-25 NBA Cup games. Is it ugly? Could it distract the players? And what about the fans in the arena or at home watching the broadcast?
Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say about Boston’s new NBA Cup court.
