Medvedev is one of the most passionate players on the men’s tour and he is always exciting to watch.

Yesterday he was in full flight as he comfortably dispatched the Australian 6-2, 6-4 in a match that showed glimpses of his best form.

Concentration is often key for Medvedev and he would dearly love to stay focused enough to reach the last four and then win this tournament.

This was a performance that said a lot about Medvedev.

It showcased that the Russian performer looked focused and determined not to get bogged down by any outside interference at the event.

Robson is working the tournament for Sky Sports and she found how focused he was quite amusing – particularly at the changeovers.

She told Sky Sports Tennis: “He was like a different player. There were no reactions. There was no come-ons, or fist bumps, or anything. It was a solid mentality from start to finish.

“He was cracking me up on the change of ends as he kept looking up at the big screen and checking his highlights and looking at all his stats from the match and he was just in a totally different mood.

“It’s so funny how that can switch that quickly.”

Medvedev will want to finish 2024 with a flourish

The year 2024 started so well for Medvedev as he reached the final of the Australian Open.

He was actually two set to the good in that final but succumbed to a rejuvenated Sinner who claimed his maiden Grand Slam crown.

Medvedev reached the last four at Wimbledon and the quarters at the US Open and he might be disappointed not to have won a major again this year.

The good thing is that the 28-year-old does have a major to his name – the US Open in 2021 – and that does highlight that he knows how to win big tournaments.

It would be quite poetic for Medvedev to go and win the ATP Finals and with this new-found focus, perhaps he’s the dark horse in Turin.
